Larry is currently the Department Chair and Professor of Accounting at Austin Community College District in Austin, Texas. Previously, he taught at both Blinn College and Northern Michigan University. Larry began his career in education in 2009 after more than 20 years of accounting and tax experience in the Oil and Gas and Electric Utility industries. He holds JD and LL.M. degrees from Thomas M. Cooley Law School, a Masters of Science in Taxation from the University of Texas at Arlington, and a Bachelors in Business Administration, major in Accounting, from Sam Houston State University.

Larry has served as the VP of Conference Planning and Professional Liaison Chair for the Teachers of Accounting at Two-Year Colleges since 2019, and is an active member of the TXCPA Professional Ethics Committee.  Additionally, Larry is also a member of AICPA-CIMA, American Accounting Association, State Bar of Michigan, Texas Community College Teachers Association, and advisory member of the CPE Committee for the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy.  Professor Stephens is the recipient of the TXCPA's Outstanding Educator Award as well as the American Accounting Association's J. Michael and Mary Ann Cook Deloitte Foundation Prize.
