Julie Duncan is a full-time professor of accounting at Lone Star College and an adjunct professor at the University of Houston. Her classes include a variety of formats: in-person, hybrid, and online. Her teaching focuses on financial accounting, managerial accounting, and advanced Excel. Julie's goal is to make accounting both accessible and engaging, especially for students who may not initially see its importance. In all her classes, she strives to prepare students for successful careers in business by incorporating professional communication and meaningful technology into classroom activities.
Prior to accounting, Julie worked as a Big 4 auditor and a Senior Accountant in the oil and gas industry. She also assists in her family's small rental property businesses.
Outside the classroom, Julie is a founding faculty advisor of an online student investing club that teaches financial literacy, investing, and budgeting skills. She is involved in the TXCPA Education Committee and the American Accounting Association's Two-Year Bridge Program, and is a recipient of the TXCPA's Outstanding Educator Award and the Faculty Excellence Award at Lone Star College.
Julie lives in Houston, Texas with her family. She enjoys cooking, yoga, vegetable gardening, listening to audio books, and traveling.
